In a ceremony full of tradition, Chief of Navy, Vice Admiral Tim Barrett, paid tribute to the service of the ship’s company past and present.

Darwin departed Sydney for South East Asian waters on 3 April; however, a propeller strike and consequent grounding on a reef off Hayman Island forced her to return to Newcastle to effect repairs. Later in the month she commenced an extended operability trial around Australia during which she visited HMAS Stirling, Fremantle and Darwin, and conducted numerous evolutions with a variety of RAN vessels, primarily HMA Ships Perth (II) and Canberra (II).
